I shot this in the spring of 2010, but wasn't sure about it. Then, a few days ago, I decided to see how it looked in Black and White. That delivered on the clearing-storm-drama I experienced as i stood there.

Rain exploded as it does in the desert - hard and quick. Then it was gone. I sat in my car hiding from the onslaught (cause I was crazy I guess. I mean, why wouldn't I be out ready for when it cleared?!). As the rain cleared, out popped a glorious rainbow so I jumped from the truck and ran to shoot it. However, I was too taken with one shot that wouldn't cooperate to see a masterpiece to my left. By the time I saw it, the rainbow had faded.

I still really like the drama of this shot though. Hope you do too.

haha, thanks Brad. yeah, rainbows can get a bit cliche, but it lined up so well in the composition that it really would have stood out against the others. but glad you like it none the less.

yeah, great spot. Check it out for sure. this is the East view, which is good most times of the year. the West view is best during the winter solstice because the sun drops South and aligns with the river.

I can't imagine how this would not be worth posting in color but it's pretty damn killer in mono.

haha, guess I can get a bit too picky sometimes. guess I just knew what could have been so I felt it didn't quite live up, but looking again I was unhindered by the woulda-shoulda-couldas.

Thank you kindly Mary. Capturing the Depth was my main goal as the 40mph wind was trying to show it to me first hand ;)

Toroweap it is. Great spot made better by the terrible road that keeps away the usual Grand Canyon crowds.

Yeah, it's on the north rim if I am not mistaken and most tourists converge on the south rim anyways. I really need to see that side for once.

haha, don't let the big bag turn you into a gear junkie! i've seen many a photographer who missed the shot because they were TOO prepared.
