Description

"'Is there no way,' said I, 'of escaping Charybdis, and at the same time keeping Scylla off when she is trying to harm my men?'

"'You dare-devil,' replied the goddess, you are always wanting to fight somebody or something; you will not let yourself be beaten even by the immortals. For Scylla is not mortal; moreover she is savage, extreme, rude, cruel and invincible. There is no help for it; your best chance will be to get by her as fast as ever you can..."

- The Odyssey

This is on of the most complex shots I have done. It is a composite of 5 horizontal images shot at two different times. I shot the first set of five after sunset to capture some light in the FG. For each of those exposures I had to add 20% to each following exposure time to keep the exposure value the same. Then, I shot each of the pano slices again 45 minutes later to get the sky. Again, I had to increase each consecutive exposure, this time by only 10%, to achieve the same exposure value through out each slice. Then I combined each exposure slice - foreground with sky. Lastly I put each of the five blended shots together into a complete pano. Finished it off with some levels and selective color adjustments.

After all that, I hope it works for people. It was a huge undertaking and it was very difficult to accurately pre-visualize the finished piece so some of the elements might not be perfectly placed.

p.s. Just for clarity, the color on the clouds is the setting new moon. That is why there is so much color.
