El Corazon by ColinHSillerud El Corazon by ColinHSillerud
A moment in the canyons with a couple of my favorite photographers. This is not Antelope Canyon.

Photoventure Blog @ [link]

(I just reprocessed it with more up-to-date methods which brought out much more dynamic range and color. Hope everyone likes)

Six exposures with different focal points blended for depth of field.

Why would you choose six exposures with different DOFs instead of six exposures with a narrow aperture for consistent depth of field? (I'm actually interested to learn, if you're willing to share)

They aren't multiple exposures for different DoF or exposure. They are 6 shots at f13 set to different focal points for full DoF [sharpness throughout] all with same exposure. Basically it is just what you suggested. Another way is to shoot one shot at f22 and use the hyperfocal distance, but diffraction starts to soften the details.

Hope this helps.

Fascinating... I did not know that such diffraction would start to happen at a high f-stop! Thanks for the response, Colin.

sure thing. just to clarify, diffraction can be a problem, but this type of image is actually one that it works on. the rock lacks the extreme detail of say a forest, so the loss from diffraction is mitigated and can provide a nice smoothness to the rock. next time i am in sandstone, i will try them both. i'm just saying don't think you should NEVER do it. just be aware of the negatives and positives. also, the amount of diffraction varies greatly from lens to lens so test em out ahead of time.
